If you can’t tell, my therapeutic style is warm, casual and sometimes quirky. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming. I am an ally. I am non-judgmental. I am sex positive and kink-friendly. I’m not an aloof, blank-slate type of therapist. I am kind, but can also be very direct. I can handle your “heavy stuff.” I sometimes pause when I’m speaking to figure out how to best convey my thoughts. I also sometimes curse in session (just keeping it real). I am a creative thinker and can also, at times, delve into the existential realm in sessions if that’s where the session goes. I love working with bright, creative, and often highly sensitive folks who happen to be seeking the support, guidance and tools that therapy can provide.
As far as my theoretical orientation: I am an integrative therapist. That means that I am trained and/or certified in a number of treatment modalities [CBT, TF-CBT, EMDR, EFCT...basically an alphabet soup...among other training] but that I realize that there is no "one-size-fits-all" with therapeutic approaches. I theoretically lean a bit more towards Psychodynamic, Gestalt, Humanistic/Person-Centered, Emotionally Focused and Attachment-Based work. Though I might give you some “therapeutic tasks” or recommended reading periodically, it is not very likely that I will give you weekly therapy worksheets or some such thing to fill out unless you are requesting it (and even then I’m more likely to suggest using an app). I am not going to try and force you into a rigid treatment model. You [or your child; or you and your partner(s)] are unique. Your lived experience is distinctly yours. I’m going to draw from my knowledge and clinical expertise to work with you in a manner that I think will serve you best as the unique being(s) you are. We’ll do that work collaboratively in order to make sure you’re getting what you need from therapy. It’s YOUR therapy.
I’m hoping you’re getting a bit of a sense of who I am as a person and a general sense of me as a psychotherapist. It's been shown that the therapeutic relationship has a significant impact on treatment outcomes. Therapy is pretty awesome and transformative when you find the right therapist for you! If I sound like I might be that therapist, please reach out so we can see if it's a good fit.
There are so many therapeutic treatment modalities - many of which have acronyms - that it can sometimes feel overwhelming.
There are also often modalities that have a lot of "buzz" around them. People hear about a certain type of therapy and want to try it out.
But not every modality is appropriate for every person - as each person is unique. That's when my clinical training and expertise come into play.
