Hi there!
I’m Bethami Lawson—pronounced like "Bethany," but with an “m” (it’s a great conversation starter). My pronouns are she/her/hers. I’m here to help you navigate life’s complexities with curiosity, creativity, and compassion. Think of me as your co-pilot—except I don’t touch the controls, I just help you figure out where to fly.
Before becoming a therapist, I had a couple of colorful career chapters: I spent several years pursuing acting (where I learned that portraying emotional depth doesn’t always land you the starring role) and about a decade as an early childhood educator (where I taught that most conflicts can be solved with "using your words," a snack or - when all else fails - a good nap). These experiences gave me a front-row seat to the quirks of human behavior and ultimately led me to UCLA—first for a BA in Psychology and later back for an MSW [Go Bruins!] with a dual emphasis in Mental Health and School Social Work.
Here’s a bit more about me: I’m a cisgender, heterosexual, Jewish woman who has navigated what many Jews know as conditional Whiteness—privileges that shift based on context. I acknowledge the privilege this affords me in many settings. I believe the world can—and should—be more equitable, and I bring that value into my work with clients.
In my practice, I focus on creating a safe, judgment-free space where you can unpack challenges, process emotions, and find meaningful solutions. I bring a strong foundation in social justice, empathy, and a love of learning to every session. While I offer guidance and expertise, I truly believe you are the expert in your own life. Together, we’ll explore, discover, and maybe even laugh (just a little) as we create meaningful change.
