Social Media & Communication Privacy Policy

As a psychotherapist, maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries is essential to our work together. This policy outlines how I engage with social media and other forms of communication to protect your privacy and uphold ethical standards.

1. Crisis Communication & Emergencies

Social media, email, phone and text messages are not monitored for urgent or emergency situations. If you are in crisis or need immediate support, please call 911, go to the nearest emergency room, or contact a crisis hotline such as the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988.

2. Telehealth Sessions & Location Requirements

  • I am licensed to practice therapy in California, and clients must be physically located in California at the time of their telehealth sessions. I will confirm your location at the start of session for licensure and safety purposes.

  • Telehealth sessions should be conducted in a private, distraction-free setting to protect confidentiality.

  • Sessions cannot be conducted while you are driving a vehicle or in any setting that does not ensure privacy and focus. Holding a session in a parked vehicle is fine - especially if it allows you to have privacy you would not otherwise – so long as I have the address where you are parked at the time of session.

3. No Online Friend Requests or Follows

To maintain professional boundaries, I do not accept friend requests, follows, or connections from current or former clients on social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn). This helps protect your confidentiality and avoids potential dual relationships.

4. No Direct Messaging or Therapy via Social Media

For privacy and security reasons, please do not use social media platforms to send direct messages (DMs) or request clinical advice. These platforms are not secure, and I cannot guarantee confidentiality. If you need to reach me, please contact me through email or phone as outlined in my office policies.

5. Texting & Email Policy

I understand that texting and email can be convenient for scheduling, but to protect your privacy, I ask that you do not send clinical or sensitive information via text or email. These forms of communication should be used only for scheduling and logistical matters. If you need to discuss anything related to your therapy, please bring it to your next session or call me directly.

6. Engaging with My Professional Content

I may share mental health-related content (e.g., articles, resources, or general wellness tips) on social media. You are welcome to engage with this content, but please be mindful that public interactions (likes, comments, shares) may compromise your privacy. If you choose to engage, do so with the understanding that it is a public space.

To protect confidentiality, I do not respond to comments or messages from clients on social media. If you have a question or need support, please reach out via phone or email.

7. Client Confidentiality & Social Media Reviews

To protect your confidentiality, I cannot acknowledge or respond to online reviews (e.g., Google, Yelp, Healthgrades). While you are free to share your own experiences, I encourage discussing concerns directly in therapy rather than in public forums, as this ensures your privacy is maintained.

Additionally, if you choose to post about your therapy experience on social media, that is entirely your decision. However, tagging or publicly mentioning me may compromise your privacy. I will not engage in public discussions about our work together in order to protect confidentiality.

8. Searching for Client Information Online

I do not search for client information online or on social media, as this can impact the therapeutic relationship and violate ethical guidelines. If there is something important for me to know, I encourage you to bring it up in session.

9. Payment via Digital Platforms

For privacy reasons, I do not accept payment through social media or digital payment platforms such as Venmo or PayPal. All payments should be made through the methods outlined in my office policies.

10. Social Media as a Marketing Tool

My social media presence is used for professional and educational purposes only. Any content I share is not a substitute for therapy and is not intended as personal advice. Following my professional accounts does not establish a therapeutic relationship.

11. Recording Policy

Clients are not permitted to record therapy sessions in any form (audio, video, or otherwise) without my explicit, prior written consent. If permission to record is granted, it is strictly for personal therapeutic use only. Under no circumstances does my consent extend to sharing, posting, or distributing the recording on social media or any other platform. Unauthorized recording or distribution may result in termination of services and/or other appropriate actions.

Questions?

If you have any questions about this policy or concerns about privacy, feel free to discuss them with me directly.
